For several years now, breast augmentation has been the most popular plastic surgery procedure in the US. Breast enhancement surgery continues to be in high demand because it is very accessible and affordable, and implant technology has also advanced. Patients contemplating having the procedure done generally want to know – How long is recovery from a breast augmentation.
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that is done to enlarge the breasts, usually with the use of saline or silicone implants.
Recovery from a breast augmentation
Recovery time after breast augmentation is not the same for every patient, as there are several variables that can influence how long it takes. The placement and size of the implants are two of the factors that can influence the duration of the recovery period.
However, most patients are able to return to work within 7 days, but patients with jobs that require a lot of physical activity may need to take up to 2 weeks off. Patients should also be prepared for the following:
- After breast augmentation patients can expect to experience some pain and swelling, but pain medications are prescribed. The swelling should go down significantly within 2 weeks, but it may take up to 3 months to fully resolve.
- Activity should be limited in the early post-operative period, as too much activity can worsen the swelling and delay healing. All heavy lifting should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
- During the healing process you will be required to wear a surgical bra to provide the necessary support for the breasts while they heal.
Breast augmentation surgery is available in Fredericksburg, VA at the offices of Surgical Arts of Virginia & Ageless Innovations Medical Spa.
